Santa Clarita, CA: Fantastic Weather

Santa Clarita is the fourth-largest city located in Los Angeles County. The city is located about 35 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. Residents love that they are close enough to the city that they can get to it quite easily, but far enough away to retain a smaller-town feel. Santa Clarita has under 200,000 people, making it an ideal size.

The cost of living in Santa Clarita is unfortunately quite a bit higher than it is in the rest of Los Angeles County, as well as the rest of the country. Healthcare costs and grocery costs come in a little lower than the national average, but housing, utilities, and the overall cost of living is quite a bit higher. The farther inland you go, the easier it is to find cheaper housing, so people on a budget are not at a total loss.

The climate and proximity to the ocean are two of the biggest draws for moving to Santa Clarita. It takes about an hour or so from Santa Clarita to get to the water, and the weather makes it an ideal way to spend an afternoon almost all year round. The highs in the winter are usually in the mid-sixties, and the highs in the summer get well into the eighties and nineties. Cool lows in the thirties, forties, and fifties make for very comfortable nights. Additionally, the sun shines all year, with very little rainfall during any season.

Besides the beach, residents of Santa Clarita love to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain, shopping at the many malls, or spending time at all of the local parks. Santa Clarita is full of outdoor spaces for the public to enjoy. Central Park is one of the best places in Santa Clarita, with sports fields, playgrounds, and places to have picnics.

The biggest employers in Santa Clarita are Six Flags Magic Mountain, Princess Cruises, and the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. It is not uncommon for residents to commute to Los Angeles for work, but this amounts to a lot of driving. There is, however, a train that goes into Downtown Los Angeles for those who wish to utilize public transportation. Buses also run extensively throughout Santa Clarita, connecting it to other nearby cities at affordable prices.
