Santa Clarita is the third largest city in Los Angeles County and it has grown rapidly in recent years. This has mostly been spurred by the physical growth of the city, but also by an influx of new residents from the rest of Los Angeles County and the United States. It is certainly a developing community with an increasingly interesting culture.

Santa Clarita’s local economy is most based on the service and entertainment industries, along with much of Los Angeles County. There is also a significant number of research jobs. Some of the biggest employers are Six Flags, Boston Scientific, Quest Diagnostics and Princess Cruises. Workers from many different fields will be able to find success here.

For those who would like to relocate or start a family, Santa Clarita has one of the best public school systems in the state of California. It is also home to the Master’s University and the California Institute of Arts, both of which are excellent higher learning institutions. The city also features over 30 parks, which are great for outdoor recreation with family or alone. If shopping is more of your interest, there are plenty of options at The Plaza at Golden Valley or River Oaks Shopping Center. There is certainly something for everyone, regardless of hobbies and interests.

Public transportation is extensive in Santa Clarita and, considering the heavy traffic in this part of the state, many people choose to use it. The system consists of busing as well as some train lines, which connect Santa Clarita to downtown Los Angeles and the other main suburbs. If you are alright with traffic at most times of the day, then a car would be fine.

The cost of living in Santa Clarita is very high, along with the rest of Los Angeles County. However, it is lower than many neighboring cities and the average rent is just a little over $2,000 per month. This high cost is made a bit easier by the high minimum wage in the city (compared to cities of similar size), but it would still be best to have either a high paying job or lots of savings to help with the costs. Groceries and other essentials are about average, thanks to the number of supermarkets in the area. Overall, many people manage to live rather comfortably here.
