Family friendly options 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jan 03, 2021) I’ve lived in Henderson for about six years now. The cost of living was much lower when we moved here and was one of the things that drew my husband and I to the city. It’s still on the low side compared to other large cities, but prices have gone up a lot recently. I like th ...Read More at there are a lot of big city amenities, but also a lot of great outdoor areas nearby too, like Lake Mead and Red Rock. The City of Henderson puts on a lot of good events and classes for residents. There are really nice parks and public pools. Several healthcare options exist.

I have two main complaints: one, lot sizes in the nice parts of town are generally tiny, if you’re a middle class family looking to buy a home. We have a “larger” lot comparatively, and we’re under 7000 sq feet. I’d love to move, but it’s really hard to find an affordable home with a backyard large enough to actually enjoy. Two, there’s a lack of culture and community here, unless you count the casinos and the strip (I don’t.) There aren’t many locally owned, unique restaurants and the bars are all smoky. Most of the places to go out to lunch or dinner are either chains or in strip malls or casinos. A farmer‘s market exists, but it’s really just a few booths in a parking lot.

The final thing I’d like to add is both a pro and a con. Las Vegas is a good hub/base for those wanting to explore the southwest, as long as you’re willing to drive four or five hours to get to much. You can take a weekend trip to the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, or the California coast, but it’s further than we’d prefer to drive most weekends. That said, if you’ve got a sense of adventure and don’t mind a drive, it’s doable. Read Less
#1 City in the State of Nevada 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 20, 2019) I lived in Henderson for almost a year. My first impression of living in Nevada was like living in a Sahara desert, nothing but sand.
I was wrong, this is what they call an Oasis in the desert. They transformed this City into a safe, family friendly and lots of ammenities.

Locat

Best places to live here for me are Green Valley area if you love greenery and Lake Las Vegas area if you want Celine Dion and others to be your neighbor.

As a suburb of Las Vegas, Henderson is expanding yearly. A lot of houses were being build, roads are wide, traffic within the city is less. A lot of people are moving here and most of them are from Southern CA. You cant deny the cost of living is low and the people living here are diverse.

One thing I dont like about is the very hot summer, thats why a house here with a swimming pool is a thumbs up. Read Less

Civilization in Henderson, Nevada 5 rating By Anonymous ( May 05, 2010) I have traveled to Las Vegas on several occasions for fun and business. The Hoover Dam is in very close to Henderson and really worth seeing and taking the private hard hat tour. The Simpson's House from the famous television show "The Simpsons" was built in a development called Springfield in Henderson. It was built by a company called KB Home and painted just like the Simpson house. Today the house has been repainted to look like the other homes in the development. Taking the Ethel M Chocolate factory tour in Henderson is fantastic way to spend a few hours. There is also Lake Las Vegas that has a beautiful Ritz Carlton with splendid views of the surrounding hills.

Overall, Henderson enjoy lower than average crime rates and cost of living and would probably make for a nice place to live and is definitely a great city to visit. Read Less

Compare Henderson, NV Livability

      vs

      Henderson, NV

Henderson is one of the fastest growing locations in the entire state of Nevada, and even local residents may be surprised that today there are more than 300,000 people who call the city home. Located about 15 miles south of Las Vegas, the area has a collection of vintage homes and ultra-modern homes that are a striking juxtaposition. The area is close to the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area that offers desert beauty and recreation opportunities. As Henderson has grown, the number of job opportunities has increased and less people have decided to commute to Vegas for their regular employment.

For those who decide to continue to work in Las Vegas, getting there from Henderson is a breeze. The city is a quick drive from Henderson via I-15, the main freeway that cuts through Henderson and leads to Vegas in the north or California in the south. The City of Henderson is one of the top employers in the city, and they provide workers a generous salary and a nice benefits package. Spectrum Pharmaceuticals and M Resort Spa and Casino are other companies that consistently receive praise from those who are fortunate enough to work there.

Home prices in Henderson have risen in recent years, but the area still offers homes for purchase and rent that are discounted in comparison to the Las Vegas or California markets. Lake Las Vegas, Whitney Ranch, and MacDonald Ranch are some the most expensive neighborhoods in the city. As you would imagine, they offer multi-million dollar views and multi-million dollar amenities for the high prices that they charge. Mission Hills, Regency Hills, and Black Mountain may have homes that are more affordable for first time home buyers.

Many of the top attractions in Henderson involve a golf course as residents look to take advantage of the beautiful weather that is present for the majority of the year. If you do want to make it to the Strip to take your chances at the tables, you are not very far from the southern end of the Strip and the Luxor or Excalibur.

Henderson has a number of public schools and charter schools that are some of the best in the entire state of Nevada. C T Sewell Elementary School, the College of Southern Nevada High School Southern Campus, and the Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas Eastgate are all amazing schools that are highly sought after.

Henderson has bus service options that are provided by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada. There are over 50 routes available to get around the area that are available to ride 24 hours a day. Those looking to learn more about the option can visit their website.
