Chicago: The Windy City

Chicago has long been known as one of America’s premier cities for sports, entertainment and quality living. Often referred to as the “Windy City,” Chicago is also known for its distinct seasons. The city is situated in northeastern Illinois on the shore of Lake Michigan and features a remarkable skyline. More than 2.7 million people call the city home, and many of these residents have come from various places around the U.S. and international locations to build new lives here.

Some of the best places in Chicago are located in the downtown region and surrounding suburbs. Chicago’s city center features numerous apartments, condominiums and townhomes that include the finest amenities and are perfect for anyone who wants a luxurious lifestyle. The city also features more affordable studio apartments along South Shore Drive, North Magnolia Boulevard and South Kingston Avenue. For families and other people who enjoy suburban living, the communities of Lombard, River Forest and Buffalo Grove have plenty of houses on the market that are within a reasonable distance from downtown Chicago.

Chicago’s climate offers something for everyone who enjoys different types of weather. Winters are often cold, snowy and windy with temperatures hovering just below freezing and average seasonal snowfalls totaling 36 inches. Rainfall is often abundant during the spring with average daytime temperatures ranging from just above freezing up to the low 70s. Heat and humidity are omnipresent during the summer, which often includes temperatures in the 80s and upwards. Many people consider the fall to be the most pleasant time of year in Chicago when weather conditions are calmer and temperatures range from the mid-40s up to the mid-70s.

The city’s vast infrastructure enhances the overall quality of life for its citizens. The Chicago Transportation Authority oversees the city’s public bus, subway and rapid transit systems. Residents can also get around on the Metra commuter railroad. Interstates 80, 90 and 190 are a few of the major local freeways. People who need health care services can go to the University of Illinois Medical Center or Rush University Medical Center located in the Illinois Medical District. Top schools include Sauganash Elementary School, the Northside College Preparatory School and Northwestern University.

Many of the best places in Chicago for sightseeing and recreation are adjacent to top residential communities. Wrigley Field is always a great place to catch a Chicago Cubs baseball game. Some of the best boutiques and high-end retailers can be found along the Magnificent Mile. Portage Park and Washington Square Park are the perfect settings for spending some time outdoors. The city is also made up of neighborhoods like Chinatown, Little Vietnam and the Polish Patches in West Town.
