I lived in Tupelo for three years in the early 90’s and can honestly say I loved it. A long-time Elvis fan, I enjoyed the fact that Tupelo is the birthplace of the King. The Elvis Presley Center attracts more than 100,000 visitors a year to this quaint museum, but that’s not the only thing to like about the city.
The weather is fairly temperate and that provides the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor attraction like the Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo. It’s a perfect spot for a day trip to observe the 125 different species housed there. I loved taking the open-air trolley to see the animals up close.
One of the best areas in Tupelo is Downtown. As part of the nationwide Maine Street Program, they have done an amazing job of promoting local businesses. Dozens of speciality boutiques line the streets. My absolute favourite part is the Tupelo Farmer’s Depot where you can shop for locally sourced produce, honey, and flowers from May to October.
