Colorado Springs, CO: Rocky Mountain High

Colorado Springs sits on a high plain on the edge of the Rocky Mountains more than a mile above sea level. Pikes Peak rises to 14,000 feet just to the west of this friendly western city. Approximately 60 miles south of Denver, Colorado Springs lies in the Front Range Urban Corridor of the "Centennial State." Colorado Springs has a population of more than 465,000 inhabitants and spreads out over an area of 195 square miles. A delightful mix of laid-back urban life and easy access to the great outdoors make this city an attractive place to live.

Colorado Springs is home to the United States Olympic Committee and one of the United States Olympic Training Centers. Several military bases and The United States Air Force Academy are located nearby making this an important hub for defense-related industries. A lively arts scene, made vibrant by outdoor summer concerts, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra, and several art galleries, enriches the city. Hiking, mountain biking, camping, and rock climbing opportunities abound in this outdoor paradise. Pikes Peak and the Garden of the Gods are both within an easy drive of downtown. The nearby Arkansas River provides plenty of entertainment for kayakers, whitewater rafters, and lovers of fly fishing.

The city receives less snow than you might expect given its location on the edge of the Rocky Mountains. Strong sunlight warms winter days making the city perfect for cold weather outdoor fun. Winter nights, however, can be frigid. Summer daytime temperatures frequently reach the high 80s. But things remain comfortable because of a delightful lack of humidity.
