Take it from a person who spent six very long and miserable years living in Bastrop, Louisiana: this is NOT a place you want to be! I even lived in what was considered one of the best areas in Bastrop, and that was a joke! We are talking about astronomical crime rates, pathetically shabby and run-down neighborhoods full of people who couldn't possibly care less about their surrpoundings, terrible, terrible schools, a practically non-existent job market, and an overall sense of depression and pall of negativity over the entire city.
The only thing that lightened my mood during the time I lived there was visiting some of the local attractions such as the Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge, the Northeast Louisiana Cotton Festival and Fair, one of my favorite places called Papa Tater's Farmers Market, and even though it isn't my scene, the Bayou Bend Golf Course seemed to always be a pretty popular spot as well.
Louisiana is a beautiful, beautiful place. Take my advice and find a better area in this state to visit or to move to.
