Anacostia Neighborhood of Washington, DC Review

I have lived in the Anacostia area of Washington, DC my entire life. I recently relocated back here from Dallas, TX where I lived for a year. This area is both bad and good to live in. Anacostia in Washington, DC gets an overall rating of a weak 4, could be better if the improvements continue around here.

The community used to be very poor looking and had a lot of people living there that did not really care about keeping their neighborhood clean or a nice place to live. There were a lot of crimes that occurred that drove a lot of non-Black people away from the Anacostia area. Now, there are a lot of positive changes and a lot of residential renovations going on around here, making it a nice place to live and even a pleasant area to look at or drive through. I am even starting to see more non-Black people moving into the area, which is a positive thing to me. Even though this community has had its shares of crimes and bad image, I am still proud to say that I am a native Washingtonian! I would rate the community an upcoming 5 because there are still some work to be done within the area.

There are not too many dine-in restaurants in the Anacostia area and I think that is the case because of the image this part has. However, there are plenty of fast-food or carry out restaurants that either a resident or visitor can peruse. In my honest opinion, I give this area a restaurant rating of 3, solely based on the fact that there are not too many dine-in restaurants; people would have to travel, mostly, out of DC for that.

People do not really gravitate to this area for attractions because there are not too many. If I am not mistaken, I can perhaps count only one attraction in Anacostia. Schools tend to take their students to Anacostia to visit Frederick Douglass' home for an educational tour as well as learn about him. Northeast and Northwest parts of DC are where people can go and find more things to do, such as museums, boat rides, fairs, and some other events. For this reason, I rate the attractions a sorry 3.

I give nightlife in Anacostia a rating of 3 because if one wants to go to a club or have a good nightlife time, Anacostia is probably not the place to go to as they do not have good clubs (if there are any and there are none that I know of).

Same can be said for shopping (major kinds), such as malls and department stores are not found in Anacostia. Small convenience or marts are what tend to be in the Anacostia area. So, I rate the shopping category 5.
