In fact, Vancouver is only about a 15-20 minute drive from Portland as the Interstate Bridge connects the two, over the Columbia River. There are recycling containers everywhere and people use bicycles for transportation more often than I've seen in other metropolitan areas.

Much of the shopping, dining and nightlife in the city is actually in Portland, which is really just 15 minutes away. Vancouver has more outdoor activities and historical sites, so the two communities together make for a great destination. The green hills and seaside location make for a relaxing, clean and fresh environment. Vancouver's recreational lakes, parks, hiking and bicycle trails are great for the traveler who enjoys the outdoors. Spawning salmon and birds of prey are a treat not many other cities can provide. In the summer, water sports are also popular. Visitor can swim, sail, scuba dive, ski and even wind surf. Overall, the city of Portland is a great destination. Read Less

This proximity to one of Oregon's largest cities makes Vancouver an attractive location to live for those who want a small-town feel with all of the amenities of a major metro area. Kelley Point Park is a great place where you can spend a Saturday afternoon enjoying a stroll around the lake or a picnic lunch with the family. Pearson Air Museum highlights the achievements of flight, and it is a fun place to take the kids to show them an airplane up close and personal.

Vancouver's top job opportunities are in the health care and education sectors. The public schools in the area employ over 3,500 workers, and PeaceHealth employs over 4,000. Those who are looking to rent or buy a home in Vancouver should look for properties in the Officers Row, Burton Ridge, and Fisher's Landing East neighborhoods. These areas of the city offer beautiful homes with character. They also give students access to some of the city's top public schools.
