South Scottsdale - Easy Access for Arizona 5 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 20, 2012) South Scottsdale is located in the southeastern portion of the Valley of the Sun. The ease of access to Phoenix, Old Scottsdale, Scottsdale and the multitude of cities that surround Phoenix has been achieved by the 101 Loop Freeway. The South Scottsdale area nicknamed SoSco, just like SoHo in New York, is an average American town with all the benefits of a metropolitan area close by. I have lived in SoSco for 10 years and I absolutely love it. There are open spaces, well maintained local neighborhoods, shopping and wonderful education possibilities all within a ten minute drive. The area itself has gone through a rebirth of sorts since the huge Los Arcos Mall and the Motor Mile have disappeared. But this did not defeat of southern neighbors of Scottsdale. Arizona State University has recently opened a research center called SkySong; this is an extension of the ASU Campus. It has brought a collaboration of the university, local businesses and global corporations to South Scottsdale. Business and growth are booming in SoSco.

A big part of southern Scottsdale is the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. In 1998 they open the first casino in Arizona; Casino Arizona. With the passage of Bill 202 the casinos on the Indian Reservations can now provide a Las Vegas style gambling to Arizona. They have built another casino, hotel, luxury spa and golf course just ten miles away from the original casino. The city is known as a premier destination for golf year round and we have over 200 golf courses in the area. Thanks to the Indian Community the educational opportunities are endless. Arizona State University, charter schools, private school and public schools are available.

Some of the other opportunities that are here for you are Frank Lloyd Wrights Taliesin West an amazing place to visit and tour through. Mayo Clinic is also located in southeastern Scottsdale and is nationally recognized destination for medical care worldwide.

Scottsdale was proclaimed "The Most Livable City" in the United States Conference of Mayors in 1993. I believe that holds true today as it did back then; the only difference is that we have the ease of access to everywhere now.

I love the art, music, literature, the antiquity of the downtown neighborhoods. Since Scottsdale is a suburb of Phoenix there is always excitement just around the corner and plenty of places to shop. The region boosts your ...Read More frame of mind with beautiful sunshine most of the year. Since it does not snow in this part of Arizona, it is great to enjoy the warm dessert year round. The coldest I have ever seen it get here is around the 40's and that is good weather to me. The summertime reaches that triple digests, but that's what air conditioning is for. The public is very welcoming and anyone can fit in rather easily! Fine art, entertainment, music, theater, marvelous foods are all originates in the best neighborhood, North Scottsdale, AZ.


Most of the people that live in the North Scottsdale area have plenty of money. This is the section of town where the rich and famous live. Most of the homes around here are $5 million and up, of course there are the more reasonable parts of the North side, which is where I live. Many people make their money in this area by working at the Scottsdale Airpark. The Airpark employees over 55,000 people. There are nearly 3,000 businesses within this facility and that allows plenty of diversity when looking for jobs. While the South Scottsdale area has most of the nightlife, often being called little Miami, the North side tends to be where the well-to-do eat and congregate. One restaurant that is a must visit is the White Chocolate Grill. The dishes and service is fabulous.

Golf is a favorite pastime in this city and the main golf course often hosts many events. Since a great deal of retirees who made their millions comes here, the golf courses are loaded with the upper class spending a leisurely day. If you are looking to move to the North Scottsdale areas make sure you have plenty of money. The homes around here are very expensive and have a high demand. Unlike other areas that have been hit hard by the housing market, Arizona still holds pretty steady. Scottsdale is an up and coming city that is divided into four parts and North Scottsdale is where the better of the population congregate. Read Less
