We looked across the Seacoast NH region and ultimately moved to Rochester a few years ago. We have been very happy with our decision. The area we live in offered the best combination of value and convenience that we were looking wanted in our home. We live close to Old Dover Road ...Read More
. You currently get extremely good value for your money here. We have a newer large home on almost 2 acres on a quiet street. Home values and taxes have not yet exploded like the higher prices of bordering towns. The area has mostly single family homes. We have nice neighbors, the area is very safe, and the location is fantastic. We are 25 mins to Portsmouth, about 35 mins to Ogunquit, and just about an hour to both Portland and Manchester. The lakes region of NH is less than an hour away, too. There’s no shortage of great shopping all within about 10 minutes. Frisbie Medical Center is also 10 minutes away.
The Lilac City is well managed —our streets have all been repaved nicely since we moved here with no disruption of service. The local government is responsive. This never would have happened in MA! Downtown Rochester is revitalizing, and has attracted some nice restaurants and has the anchor Rochester Opera House. As prices in the core Seacoast region continue to rise exponentially, neighboring towns like Rochester will see further appreciation of home values. The is especially the case as bordering Dover and nearby Durham inch closer to the sky high prices of Portsmouth.
People’s perceptions of Rochester may be influenced by its past. It has come a long way in the last few years. It is geographically a large city, and while it has some areas near the downtown center/fairgrounds that can certainly be improved, overall it has come very far. It has very good long term potential. If you want the best combination of convenience, livability, and bang for your buck in the greater Seacoast region, Rochester checks all the boxes. Get in now while it’s affordable. It may not last too much longer.

Rochester, New Hampshire, not to get it confused with the many others, is just a beautiful place to live. It’s honestly just right for someone looking for a place that offers the best of small town living that isn’t too big to be considered a big town, per se. On the other ha ...Read More
nd, a lot has changed over the years.
Where once I would jump at recommending this humble, and friendly place, now the streets are littered with drugs. We were recently rated one of the most dangerous city’s in America at night because if the opioid crisis. Rochester regrettably is a mirror of the rest of the state.
During the day though, it’s a really nice city. I often take bike rides to clear my head, and the schools have always been pretty decent. Stores are pretty close by, I often chose to walk rather than drive. The crisis taking over the city though is the only reason I would not recommend. At least until the issue gets cleared up.
