Newton is a great place to live, work and visit. Each of the 13 villages has its own little main street/business districts, community events and activities. The city values green space and its natural features such as Crystal Lake, Bulloughs Pond, and many parks with beautiful wa ...Read More
lking trails. There is a farmer's market - two locations in the summer and one indoor market in the winter. Most of the residents live within walking distance to the green line, commuter rail or bus routes - easy access to downtown Boston. Kids have many options for sports and intramural events. There is a local history museum and the unique Metropolitan Waterworks Museum. Many neighborhoods have homes that are historical and architectural gems. The local Newton Free Library as well as the many colleges, churches and synagogues and museums in the area offer many opportunities to attend lectures, concerts, art shows, July 4 fireworks, bird watching and many venues for taking canoes and kayaks out on the river and ponds. Many of the local restaurants are spectacular. The city and local organizations such as the Newton Conservators, Bike Newton, and the Green Decade/Newton are constantly working to green up the city.

The winter in Massachusetts is probably not the best time to visit, unfortunately I just so happened to pass through Newton, MA in the winter of 2009. Newton, MA is a great place to visit, it's just unfortunate because during the winter months Newton, MA spends it time covered in ...Read More
snow.
Newton, MA is a small city located not far from Boston. In fact, Boston is only about a 20 minute drive from Newton. Unlike Boston, Newton does not have all the hustle and bustle of the city. Newton has a small feel with an ample amount of restaurants and dirning, a little shopping, no nightlife and very few attractions. As a tourist destination Newton does not have much to offer however it wouldn't make a bad place to live. Sitting on a rock-face at the Hammond Pond Reservation in Newton I couldn't help but think to myself that I'd like to sell my house in the city and escape to a place like Newton.
When visiting Newton you should make the best of your time and visit the Publick Theater. They have many great shows and the theater features both an indoor and outdoor stage. As previously mentioned Hammond Park Reservation makes a great place for nature walking and low-level rock climbing. There are various restaurants throughout Newton including some good choices in Italian. Seafood seems to be quite common in Newton as well, clam chowder lovers will be pleased.
