Ann Arbor, a city in Michigan, is home to around 200,000 people. Despite being on the smaller side, it packs a punch, thanks to the University of Michigan’s flagship campus, and associated hospital, being located there. It is also a technological hub, so it draws workers and students alike. With a cost of living only slightly higher than the national average, and reasonable home and rental costs, Ann Arbor is ideal for those who want to live in the Mitten State.

With a humid continental climate, Ann Arbor has warm summers, transitional falls and springs and long and snowy winters due to the Lake Effect. Snow usually comes in October and stays through April, so bundle up.

TheRide, the city’s transportation system, offers buses that get people where they need to be. It costs $1.50 per ride, making this a cost-effective option for many. Riding and seeing route destinations is easy, as is taking transportation to the airport via the AirRide service.

Ann Arbor is primarily centered on two things: culture and the university. The Ann Arbor Art Fairs and the Ann Arbor Film Festival are attended by many locals and out-of-towners, due to their national reputations of being high quality and enriching. The Ann Arbor District Library and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library also hold numerous events, talks and workshops.

The University of Michigan offers no shortage of things to do, visit and explore. The Michigan Stadium, also known as “The Big House,” is one of the largest football stadiums in the country. Cheer on the Michigan Wolverines as they take the football field, or watch a hockey game at the Crisler Center. The university Performance Society, as well as the musical theater program, one of the nation’s best, offer numerous chances to take in a show year-round. Past shows and events include Chicago, Evita, Spring Awakening and the Senior Sing. If museums are more your fancy, the school has art, archeology, natural history and science museums. Spend a day strolling through each to get your culture fix. Or, attend a tailgate before the big game, relax in the Law Library or wander around the botanical gardens. With plenty of things to do, you will never get bored in Ann Arbor.
