Small-Town America in a Quaint Setting User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 16, 2018) Willmar, Minnesota is located near the Lake Traverse Reservation just a few hours west of Minneapolis. It's a quaint small town with rural charm. Willmar has an excellent public school system and is certainly a safe community with a good police presence. The housing market in Wil ...Read More lmar is fair, with home prices being low and property taxes being reasonable. Shopping, dining and nightlife are relatively average, with most dining options being franchises and no major shopping centers.

The weather in Willmar is comparable to that of the rest of Minnesota and the Midwest. The winters here are frigid with a lot of snow, and the summers can be oppressively hot and humid, especially because Willmar is much further inland. It is also worth noting that Willmar is in a part of the country that is subject to tornadoes during the spring and summer seasons.

Overall, Willmar is a great place to live to raise a family. It has all the benefits and charm of living in a rural community, and certainly doesn't lack in having a sense of community and family-like inclusivity. Read Less
