Snow Canyon High School: a public school in the exquisite surroundings of southern Utah, that values family and good, wholesome fun. Nothing can compete with the combination of Ivin's red rock mountains and picturesque sunsets at a Friday night football game. Not only is the scenery marvelous, but the location of the school is prime. Many kids bike or walk to school. The school itself is very well kept and has a timeless design. Having an open concept design makes it easy to navigate through and definitely doesn't feel crammed full of kids. There are touches of artwork on the walls that are unique and add life to the interior. One of my favorite aspects of the building is the windows allowing the Saint George sun to flood into the classrooms and halls.I'm quite impressed with the school building but not so much with the people inside the school. The fact that Snow Canyon values family is fantastic, but if you are apart of a specific family, you may have more of an advantage than others. There are definitely favorites within how the school operates and I've seen it affect the grades students are given, whether or not a student makes a team, and how a student is treated. That leads me into just how terrible the teachers are. Many teach classes they aren't qualified or educated in, leaving the students with chunky books to learn from and no teacher to help. The environment is extremely laid back and relaxed, so that is why the horrendous "teaching" may not show in the students' grades. Though, the counselors are some of the most understanding and helpful people on this planet. They aren't blind to what goes on and will be honest saying, "This teacher is horrible at teaching, you don't want to take his class." They want the best for you and hope for your success.Though the actual academics and teachers aren't very impressive, the sports program is quite the opposite. With Snow Canyon being a school containing a smaller amount of students, more people are given an opportunity to participate in sports teams. It is a very inclusive and supportive environment. There are always student sections with loads of school spirit, cheering on and supporting the teams. Anyone who goes to Snow Canyon is proud to be a warrior. There is a tangible spirit of fun and energy flowing throughout the halls, into all the classrooms, and out onto the field. Snow Canyon is a fantastic example of giving students an amazing high school experience through healthy and wholesome ways. Yes, like any school there are faults, but overall, I take pride in being a Warrior.
