It hasn't had a lot of experience with other races. To me Scranton being an older community with low education, it's in sort of a time capsule. The way people speak dress and act is sort of 1950s , so its a sort of covert racism that you'll get here and being a relatively small community with limited job opportunity, finding a good job without having a connection, is going to be very difficult. The city itself is slowly sliding into a bankruptcy situation as it owes much more money out than it's bringing in even with local taxes that are higher than Philadelphia PA. That being said the management of the city and it's school district are as corrupt as you will find. Talk to locals and most will tell you they are waiting for big arrests on these folks. Speaking of arrests, most crime in the city go unreported except very large ones so stats are unreliable. To sum it up, there are much better places to go. Read Less

The hotel is a historic landmark that once was a train station. The inside is beautiful and has a great restaurant and both a wine bar and a regular bar. The hotel was definitely on par with other 4 ...Read More or 5 star hotels but had rates comparable to a 2 or 3 star hotel. Scranton is located in the beautiful Pocono mountains and due to that the highways go through a lot of twists and turns. The city of Scranton is kind of difficult to find your way around but the people are very helpful with directions.

There are a lot of stores in the area including some awesome small neighborhood grocery stores. The restaurants seemed a bit pricey but the food was good. We had a lot of fun just looking around. The whole area is beautiful and Scranton is pretty high up on a mountain so you can see for miles around. There is a lot to do both in the city and the surrounding countryside. I look forward to visiting Scranton again. Read Less
