Not the unsafe city some say it is User Rating 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jun 27, 2024) I've lived here all my life. Raised in the township, moved to the inner city in the 1980s. At that time there were six active gangs, now there are none. What shootings there are, they are confined to basically three families duking it out amongst themselves. Hardly a war zone. ...Read More Tit for Tat stuff and teenagers settling fights with a gun. Isolated yet disturbing they do so. The city is on the rise. $250m dollars worth of medical, educational, and housing going downtown. Many new projects are being built in Old Town (2 miles south). We live right downtown in a Victorian-era neighborhood. We walk everywhere. We are never bothered nor feel in danger. We have a splendid river, the result of three major river watersheds coming together at what is now called, "Headwaters Park". We have walking, biking, and blading trails in the city and also outside the city, all being connected in the next year or two. We have a wonderful zoo, Japanese-built Tea House and Gardens, splash park, neighborhood parks, and access to the Saginaw Bay/Lake Huron by driving north 12 miles or using the river. The nightlife is lively in Old Town and some spots in Downtown. Lots of good eateries in and about the city's core. Detroit is a scant 90-mile drive down I-75 and the Mackinaw Bridge, and Mackinac Island are a 2 1/2 hour drive north along the same route. Read Less

Saginaw, MI: Decent Shopping, High Crime User Rating 1.5 rating By Anonymous ( Aug 10, 2010) As a native Michigander, I frequently visit the city of Saginaw when I visit another one of my favorite cities named Frankenmuth. I must admit that Saginaw is a pretty dangerous city to live within. It is not the most pleasant city that Michigan has to offer. I felt pretty unsafe ...Read More walking around Saginaw alone, especially when I would walk to my car at night. It seems to me that Saginaw has a very intense crime problem, which also makes it a place that families should avoid at all costs.

I would definitely not recommend living in Saginaw for families. I do not think the schools in the area are very good for children. I think that the violence in the city can be very distracting for families that want their children to do the best they can in school. Living in the city of Saginaw is almost like setting up children for failure for their academic endeavors. It is truly important for kids to feel safe in whatever city the family lives within, and I can guarantee children will not feel safe living in this city. The city does have some nice shopping malls, but aside from that it does not have anything but crime to offer. Read Less
