I went to Palmdale High School, class of 1992. Go Falcons! The city of Palmdale is cool because its only an hour's drive from Los Angeles and housing is a lot cheaper. The west side of town is more developed, with shopping centers and nicer houses whereas the East side of town is ...Read More
kinda run down. There's a lot of abandoned shopping areas and scarier neighborhoods on the East side.
Antelope Valley Mall is located right off of the freeway and it's surrounded by restaurants. The shopping centers in Palmdale are mostly big chain superstores, like Linens n Things, Borders and Old navy. It's decent shopping, but not like the boutiques you get in Hollywood.
There aren't a lot of nightclubs in Palmdale. The residents are used to commuting an hour to get to Los Angeles for work, so they have a few country music clubs and a few clubs for the twenty something crowd, but most people just drive down to Los Angeles for a night out.

Palmdale is a city in Los Angeles County with an interesting history and it is particularly renowned for its aerospace industry. In fact, it is known as the “aerospace capital of the United States” and this reputation has helped to grow its population and prosperity throughout the decades. Its proximity to Los Angeles is also particularly appealing.
Palmdale has a diverse, growing economy, but the main sectors are service and aerospace manufacturing. Aerospace companies provide the majority of jobs and they include Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Boeing. There are, of course, other employers, and most people will have no problem finding a job in the city, regardless of their field. The area is also famous for the Antelope Valley agricultural zone, of which the main exports are onions, fruit and oats.
Families can find plenty of good options for education and recreation in Palmdale. The local public schools are some of the best in the country, along with many others in the Los Angeles area, and most neighborhoods are very safe considering the size of the city. There are also quite a few options for higher education in Los Angeles County as a whole. In terms of recreation, there are plenty of options, including the Palmdale Oasis Park Recreation Center and Marie Kerr Recreation Center. Those interested in shopping can find a wide variety of stores at Palmdale International Shopping Mall and the Antelope Valley Mall. As an international city, Palmdale has countless options for entertainment and it is an excellent location to live in as a family or young person.
Public transportation in Palmdale consists of a busing system which connects it to Los Angeles and the other main suburbs. Many people do choose to use it over cars because the traffic in this part of the state is notoriously intense throughout most hours of the day. Gas is also higher here than in other parts of the United States, making biking and buses a more attractive option for many residents.
Living in Palmdale costs about average for Los Angeles County, with rent costing around $1,500 per month on average. The minimum wage is relatively high and that does help offset the cost at least somewhat. Groceries are also fairly average compared to the rest of the country and the vast majority of people don’t have any trouble living comfortably and successfully here.
Palmdale is a beautiful suburb, which shows consistent population and economic growth with no signs of slowing. There is great potential for individuals and families alike. If you decide to move here, you will be welcomed into the community and feel at home before you know it.
