Oxnard is located just 60 miles from Los Angeles and is home to more than 197,000 residents. Named in honor of sugar industry tycoon Henry T. Oxnard, the city was officially incorporated in 1903 and is now a main hub for the agriculture, tourism and international trade industries.

Even though housing and overall cost of living prices are slightly above the state average and other places around the U.S., reasonable prices on homes can be found in certain parts of the city. Good deals on homes can also sometimes be found in nearby cities like Saticoy, Santa Paula and El Rio. Many of the best places to live in Oxnard also have reasonably priced monthly rental fees, and Ojai, Carpenteria and San Buenaventura are adjacent cities that sometimes offer good deals on property rentals as well.

Due to its seaside location, Oxnard experiences climate conditions that are similar to those of the Mediterranean region. The frequent cool ocean breezes provide an escape from the extreme heat that is found in other parts of Southern California. Summer temperatures hover around 75 degrees with the coldest winter temperatures rarely dropping below 40 degrees. Rainfall is minimal throughout much of the year with December through March being the wettest period.

For public transportation, the Oxnard Transit Center is the main hub for Amtrak train service as well as Ventura Intercity Service Transit Authority (VISTA) and Gold Coast Transit bus service. Metrolink trains also provide service to select points around the city. The 101 Freeway and Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1) are two main thoroughfares for drivers.

Some of the best places in Oxnard are situated near beaches and offer easy access to the ocean shore. Oxnard Beach Park features a long walkway that is perfect for walking and cycling. Other notable beaches worth visiting include Hollywood Beach, Mandalay Beach and Silver Strand Beach. Many beautiful artworks can be seen by taking a tour of the Carnegie Art Museum. The Henry T. Oxnard Historic District features many classic homes that have been standing since the city’s early days.
