Thank you for the bad reviews. 4 rating By Anonymous ( May 24, 2020) First I want to say thank you for keeping oxnard small. I know it is the largest city in ventura county but with the ratings liste on this website you would think oxnard is way worse than it is. I moved to Ventura county in 2013 and since then I've moved a couple of time and I'v ...Read More e had nothing but positive experiences. Oxnard is a working class city so it's income is relatively lower than the surrounding area. Family is big here, you will find 5-8 people living in a house but it's because there are several generations living under one roof. Families in oxnard tend to care for their elderly in the house purchased or rented by the elderly. Oxnard has old homes, but new home are always being constructed. I moved here from the east coast so my impression of a bad community is clearly different than those listed here. If you are thinking of moving to oxnard, do your research. The city is majority Latino/a , white and then other. IMHO oxnard gets a bad rap because the rival majority of people that live here are people of color.

Oxnard beach are pretty cool, there are tons of hiking just minutes away. There tons of history in the area, and the strawberry festival is pretty cool.
I don't go out in oxnard, most of bar area latino/a. I usually go to ventura with is a 5-10min drive.
Dining is pretty awesome, oxnard has a small town feel (meaning there are many mom and pop resturants), but it also had the established resturants/fast food. The surrounding areas have great dining choices.
Oxnard has the collection for shopping but there are also the mall in ventura and the outlet mall in camarillo which is again a 10 min drive. But again don't move here, I like it the way it is. Read Less
Think twice before moving here (Riverpark)! A few things to consider. . . 0.5 rating By In My Opinion. . . ( Oct 19, 2016) At first glance, Oxnard (Riverpark) may seem like a viable and affordable place to live and (in all honesty) it is more affordable than surrounding towns such as Camarillo, Newbury Park, Summerland and Santa Barbara, but with affordability comes some serious problems and some poi ...Read More nts to consider:Crime/Vandalism: Both are high here. . .even in the nicer and newer parts of Oxnard such as Riverpark which borders one of the worst crime areas in Oxnard. Bad people doing bad things bleed over in this area as it is certainly not a gated community. At first glance during the day, it seems nice, new, clean, with newer housing and pretty parks, etc. However, after spending some time living here and being the victim of crime in this area, I would certainly never live here again. Sadly, vandalism can be seen in the new parks as people just don't care and with poverty comes ignorance and with ignorance comes lack of pride in a community.Unfriendly: There is a high rental community which means a lot of people in and out. Neighbors generally keep to themselves. People will say hello if prompted, but don't expect to make long-term friends with your neighbors as nobody is really interested. As a lower income town, people generally work during the day and keep to themselves at night.Shopping/Nightlife: The Collection (adjacent shopping center) does offer decent shopping, dining and nightlife. It is rather convenient to have a Target nearby. Friday and Saturday nights/evenings, however, are chaotic as this is the one and only shopping and dining destination in Oxnard. Beware that The Collection does become the high school hangout spot around 5:00 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday nights for the 15-18 year-old crowd which just generally means to expect LARGE GROUPS of teenagers generally congregating around The Collection while security desperately tries to break up the loitering. There is the most concentrated cases of shoplifting during these times so don't be surprised to see high concentrations of police and people being escorted out of stores in handcuffs during these times. (I've seen this on each and every Friday and Saturday evening/night that I have been there).Filthy/Dirty: The town of Oxnard, in general, is pretty dirty. It is an older town with some newer developments sprinkled in. Grocery stores are generally run down and I go out of town to do grocery shopping as the options available here are not great and dingy. Poverty: As the statistics on this site state, Oxnard is an older city with a large population that is generally uneducated. With the lack of education in this town there seems to be poverty to go along with it. I think Riverpark is trying to change this by attracting young professionals and families, but don't be too surprised to find eight to nine people living in one house/condo despite rules against such. If you can overlook some of these points, then Riverpark may be for you. For me, though, Riverpark missed the mark and did not meet my standard of living.Would I live here again? NEVERIs it a good place to live for those with a high standard of living? NOIs there a good sense of community here? NOGood place for a family? NODo I wish someone would have informed me of the downfalls before moving here? YESWould I recommend a friend or family member live here? NO Read Less

Oxnard, CA - Think Twice About Relocation 2.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 05, 2010) If you are considering moving to Oxnard, Ca, I would have to advise against it. On the plus side, the food is good. You won't starve in Oxnard. There are restaurants in Oxnard lining the streets. The food is excellent. We made it a point to try a different restaurant each night we were there. I swear I gained 5 lbs by the end of the trip. They also have a great little farmer's market there. The vegetables are beautiful and delicious. Everything is reasonably priced, too. If you are in the city during the spring, check out the Oxnard Strawberry Festival. It is quite fun. Read Less
