Metairie, Louisiana - A Lakeshore Community

I visited Metairie in the summer of 2009 while on vacation in New Orleans, Louisiana. One of the unique things I found out while visiting the "city" was the fact that Metairie is not an actual city. It was unincorporated around 1928 and has remained that way ever since.

Metairie is a lovely community located on the banks of Lake Ponchartrain and has five zip codes assigned to its one hundred fifty thousand or so residents. A close neighbor to the city of New Orleans, Metairie is only about a 10-15 minute drive from "The Big Easy". Metairie is the home of the New Orleans Saints football team's offices; various practice stadiums and other sports fields. Metairie is also known for having one of the lowest crime rates in the country!

Metairie has a variety of industries located within the community including the Lexus and Mercedes-Benz automobile manufacturers. It also boasts having one of the oldest shopping centers in the state, as well as its hopping nightlife offerings in its "Fat City" district. With its close proximity to the New Orleans International Airport and the Ponchartrain Center, Metairie is a community that has a lot to offer.
