One of the unique things I found out while visiting the "city" was the fact that Metairie is not an actual city. It was unincorporated around 1928 and has remained that way ever since.

Metairie
...Read More is a lovely community located on the banks of Lake Ponchartrain and has five zip codes assigned to its one hundred fifty thousand or so residents. A close neighbor to the city of New Orleans, Metairie is only about a 10-15 minute drive from "The Big Easy". Metairie is the home of the New Orleans Saints football team's offices; various practice stadiums and other sports fields.
