Unfortunately, I am currently living in Mead Valley, CA, which is not something I recommend. The only redeeming quality is the weather, which ranges between 50 to 79 degrees depending on the season. Otherwise, I have a laundry list of reasons to stay away from here.
Homes are pricey. Not as bad as other parts of California, but significantly higher than where I previously lived in the Midwest. The kicker is that the pay here is less. So you've got higher cost of living with less money. Throw in an atrocious school system, and you've got a clear "Keep Out" sign for families.
If you have no kids, don't worry, you'll be miserable, too. Besides the financial issues and poor education, you'll be bored senseless as there's not a thing to do here, unless you get your kicks riding the public bus around town. The best area in Mead Valley is by Interstate 215, because it's the fastest way out of town.
