The best part about Marlton is it's historic charm. The area was first settled in 1676 and is part of Evesham Township. The town is named after the discovery of marl clay. Farmers inhabited the area and excavated the marl clay until 1930 when the pits were closed down. The area remained rural until the 1950's when developers started buying up farmland and building subdivisions. There is a historic district called Olde Marlton. Marlton has two elementary schools, Robert B Jaggard School and Frances Demasi elementary School grades K-5. Marlton Middle School grades 6-8 and Cherokee High School grades 9-12. Marlton is 20 miles from Philadelphia and 50 miles from Atlantic City. Marlton is considered part of the Philadelphia suburbs, even though it is on the New Jersey side of the Delaware River. Marlton is considered part of south Jersey. Marlton does not have a lot of nightlife. It's a quiet town, but close to the big city for fun and excitement.
