I was born in Marina, California and lived there for six years. I still visit often and still remember places I visited when I was younger. Since my father served in the U.S. Army, we often visited Fort Ord Army Base. The character of the city can be described as quiet and relaxing. The weather never gets too warm or too cold during the year. Marina is not home to many employers so there is usually light traffic within the city.
The beaches and parks, which are sometimes within walking distance depending on where you live, are Marina's main attraction. There are many cyclists and others walking to Marina State Beach and Dunes State Park and the trails adjacent to the beach and park will take you all the way to Monterey's Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf. The former Fort Ord Army Base has been converted to part of the California State Monterey Bay campus and new residential and commercial building sites.
