As a San Fernando Valley native, I lived in Winnetka, California when I was a very young child. Thankfully, I live in Winnetka again as a young adult. Winnetka is a laid-back Los Angeles community that combines the convenience of big city living with the relaxation of a much smaller town. The community is surrounded by Northridge, Canoga Park and Reseda. It's roughly half an hour away from the heart of Los Angeles by car -- ideal for commuters.

As far as Los Angeles standards go, Winnetka is an affordable area. The housing market is stable, too. It provides residents with access to many schools. Schools in the area include St. Martin in the Fields School, Sutter Middle School and Chatsworth High School. It's also just minutes away from from California State University Northridge, which is a large and reputable public university. People who have children should have no problems finding top-notch educational opportunities in the Winnetka area.

I truly appreciate the convenience of life in Winnetka. The neighborhood is just a short drive away from some of Los Angeles' most well-known shopping destinations. These include the Westfield Topanga Mall and the Northridge Mall. Both of these malls are hubs for shopping and dining. Dining is a big benefit of life in Winnetka. If you want to eat Mexican food, you can stop by the delectable nearby Sabroso American and Mexican Food. If you want to nosh on classic delicatessen fare, you can visit Brent's Deli. If you want to enjoy classic hot dogs, you can go to Fab Hot Dogs. If you want to savor traditional Japanese cuisine, you can enjoy dinner at Musashi Restaurant. The dining options in and near Winnetka are practically endless. While Winnetka is indeed excellent for shopping and dining, however, it's not the greatest area for nightlife. If you love nightclubs and bars, then you might want to consider looking into other areas of Los Angeles. Winnetka's nightlife scene is on the quieter side. Despite that, various nightlife options do indeed exist. These include Casa Tequila Night Club, La Victoria Night Club, Cloud 9 Hookah Lounge, Dublin's and Little Rock. Crazy Harry's Bar is one of the most popular nightlife options in Winnetka proper. I occasionally stop by Crazy Harry's to meet up with close buds and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere.
