If you want to / have to live anywhere between Olympia & Tacoma, Lacey would be ok. I've lived in the area about 5 years. In that 5 ears the entire area from Olympia to Tacoma has seen a HUGE uptick in homeless. It's now Jan 2021 and COVID is making things much worse. 2020 we saw ...Read More
so many retail stores in Downtown Oly close. Then looted when BLM riots happened. Olympia is not what is use to be. Here is a video that explains the homeless problem.

Stay away from the Hobby Lobby by the Slater Keeney & 5 freeway. Large homeless population there. Also, along the street at the Providence Hospital. A few years ago it was safe to drive down that street. Not anymore.
But, in Lacey, you can still find many great areas. The Hawks Prairie area is amazing, beautiful, and very nice. St. Martin's University is wonderful. The Tumwater Public Library is the best in the entire area. Clarius Eye Center is the best. Shopping is pretty good. You have your standard Best Buy, Target, Fred Meyer, and the best Chipotle . They are building many apartment complexes over by the Cabela's that are very nice and I think will attract a higher caliber of people. That northern area is also very nice with the golf course.
I know with COVID the entire US is facing problems and I do hope that when this is all over they will clean up Lacey. It really is a beautiful city with lots to offer. Just stay away from Olympia and you're good.

I moved to Lacey, WA about three years ago from the busy city of Atlantic City, NJ. I made the move because of a job, but once I arrived in the city, I started to rethink that decision. This is a small town with very few large companies to work for with mine being one of the prom ...Read More
inent ones in the area. While there aren't many businesses, the people who live here are very friendly. They are caring and take pride in the town. I can walk down the sidewalk and see people mowing their lawns or beautifying flower beds. The store owners in the town make sure the windows, doors and buildings are in the best condition possible.
There aren't many attractions in Lacey, so I often have to travel to Seattle if I want to do anything that is remotely fun. However, there is one place that is ideal for families with young children. Charlie's Safari has several inflatables, including a slide and a bounce house. These are located inside. The one thing that I don't like is that there needs to be more people working to make sure the kids are safe. Jumping Jacks Family Fun Center is another place to go that is in a little better condition and reminds me of Chuck E. Cheese. It's great for birthday parties, and the games are often updated so that you aren't playing the same things when you enter. I have noticed that the town does have a few wineries and places to get a glass of beer. This isn't something that I'm accustomed to, but after trying a beverage or two, this is something that the town is good at doing.
