Pretty Amazing Actually

I've officially been here for a full year after moving from out of state for a job. I'm from the Northeast, so to me, the winters here are pretty mild and apparently we get a major snow maybe every 6-8 years while snow is generally pretty minimal otherwise. Natives here say it's ...Read More
a little cold annually which I can agree with and is probably due in part to the elevation which is a little over 4,000 feet. But, the ground is warmer here probably due to the geothermal activity, so it's not like a Northern state at all. I have seen insects outdoors in the winter. As for heat, I can't remember having more than only a few weeks of very hot days during the summer. One oddity that I find kind of lulzy is that people here insist on using studded snow tires in the winter. What this does is tears up the local streets which tend to get shallow ruts in them as a result.
.
There's no commercial airport here and as far as I know, there's only one hospital which gets pretty bad reviews online so if you need serious medical attention, you will probably have to travel to Medford which can be challenging in the winter. There are good dentists and optometrists here, however. As for stores, Fred Meyer, Walmart, and The Home Depot, have everything one would generally need.
.
Home prices and apartment rents are too high here as they are in most places, with a shack (a literal shack) an hour way or a tiny run down house costing a hundred grand and middle of the road economy grade homes in decent areas costing around $200-250K. There are a lot of single and double wides here, but you can't get a mortgage for those.
.
The people are unusually polite here and I have yet to run into any kind of road rage. Visiting the DMV is always a super pleasant and efficient process and there are a few major banks here as well as an adequate amount of gas stations and EV charging stations.
.
If you're looking for "something to do," keep in mind that Klamath Falls isn't even a medium sized city. Even though there are a lot of summer events like a big car show, county fair, concerts, farmer's market, etc., there's no mall, no Target, no night clubs, and no pro sports teams. If you're not an outdoor enthusiast, raging gamer, or into college sports, you'll probably be bored here unless you can afford to eat out all the time in which case, there are a reasonable amount of (mostly Mexican) restaurants and coffee shops.
.
As for political climate, this is a rural area, so it's generally conservative, but the state university which is a major employer, has tampon dispensers in the men's rooms and it definitely leans left there.

I live here currently and have for about a year. There's a lot of cons but a lot of good things too. The nearest mall is an hour and a half away. Not too much shopping or things to do at all. Very hard to find work. However it's affordable. Rents not too high, no sales tax is gre ...Read More
at all my necessities are cheap. The people are friendly, you know your neighbors and such. I was in the hospital and my coworkers came to visit me and helped me out a lot. Great community. Some people think the crime is bad, but coming up here from california I disagree. You can walk around town at night and not get robbed.

Klamath Falls is a perfect place to live for a nature lover and adventurer like me. It's sunny, we have the beautiful Klamath Lake, and there are beautiful parks. Moore Park is full of trails which have been nicely landscaped and designated for different levels of athletic abilit ...Read More
y. I am one of many here who enjoy mountain biking, cross-country skiing, bird watching, and canoeing. The weather is perfect most of the time here, too.
Mountain Lakes Wilderness Area is popular among people who like to go fishing. The lakes are clean and gorgeous. You can gaze at the mountains that are clearly reflected in them.
Not too far outside Klamath Falls are the famous Crater Lake National Park and
Lava Beds National Monument.
I grew up in a family that earned a good living with businesses related to tourism. However, the average person would probably have a hard time finding work here. There are often high unemployment rates. Many of the jobs that are available are for seasonal workers and other laborers.
