I have lived in St. Louis, MO for the past 21 years. During this time, I have had the privilege of visiting Jefferson City, MO numerous times. While Jefferson City is the state capital of Missouri, it is also a relatively small city. I would say most of the tourism is centered on the historical significance of the city, as well as it being the center point of state politics. Despite its small-town feel, there are some good attractions as well as much to do and see in Jefferson City.
The first thing I usually check out in Jefferson City is the State Capitol. Like many state capitols, it is based on Roman architecture, with large columns and a dome. The Capitol also houses the Missouri State Museum, which I typically visit as well. Afterwards, I like to go over the Governor's Mansion, which is where the first family of Missouri lives. Another place I really like to go is Jefferson Landing, which is right on the Missouri River. It has a very 19th century feel to it, as if you are in a Mark Twain story. Not much nightlife to speak of, but I always enjoy my time in Jefferson City due to the attractions and site seeing.
