If you have to live in the East Valley...

East Highland is nice, west Highland is ghetto land.If you have to live in the East Valley, then East Highland may be the best choice. It is less expensive than Redlands and Loma Linda and a way better choice than anywhere in San Bernardino. There isn't anything to do in Highland itself, and the city's amenities for its residents are poor, the few parks are lame, the library is lame. The Redlands school district (East Highland) is well regarded for California, but compared to districts in other parts of the country with comparable housing costs, it is pretty awful. The good private schools are too far away to be practical. If you have kids and want them to be in a great school, the best advice is to move to a different state.Keep in mind that the San Andreas fault runs through/next to Highland, so have a good earthquake plan.
