The majority of career opportunities revolve around government jobs on the base, however, commuters also enjoy the myriad of options in nearby Tacoma and Olympia.

The best area in Fort Lewis its location near the waters of Puget Sound. Outdoor enthusiasts will delight in the many recreational opportunities on the water, including boating and sailing. Nearby Mt. Rainier offers exceptional hiking and wildlife viewing opportunties. Washington's capital Olympia is a short drive away, providing visitors and residents a chance to learn more about the state's history.
