If you are looking to live in sunny southern California but don't want to deal with the large buildings and all of the tourist attractions of San Diego, than Escondido might just be the perfect city for you. The town, while still on the larger side with over 140,000 residents, is small enough to make you feel like it is nothing more than a community, as it is just north of San Diego. While not located on the water, it is only a short drive away, so if you want to relax in a small-town feel, all while living only a few minutes away from it all, Escondido, CA is an excellent option for you.
As the city is not directly located on the water, the apartment rental prices are somewhat less than what you would find in cities just to the west of it. However, it is still a bit pricey, if you are not use to southern California prices. It is a desirable location though, if you are moving into the region and don't want to be right on the water.
Public transportation for apartment renters is adequate, as not only is there a local bus service that connects to San Diego, but there is also a light rail line that runs along a 22 mile track. This is one of the newer light rail systems in the entire country, so if you are looking to hit up one of the popular sites in the region, this is a desirable feature, although you will still need to own a vehicle in order to travel to many of the necessary locations in the city.
When the high speed rail system is built along the coast in California, Escondido is going to be one of the stops, so you'll find it easier to travel to the desired locations.Source: The Escondido, CA housing data displayed above is derived from the 2016 United States Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS).
