Sweet Little Farm Town User Rating 4.5 rating By MinaBean ( Jul 07, 2020) Dixon is not what many expect from a town in California. The pace is much slower here than in the more urban parts of the state, and the sense of community and is strong. The city does its best to stay true to its farm and ranching roots, with strong agriculture programs in its s ...Read More chools, Lambtown Festival (celebrating the town's sheep ranching history) and a variety of locally-sourced restaurants. Many of the families that have been here for a while work for (or have worked for) the local farms, or come from a long line of farming folk.

Being near the SF Bay Area makes housing prices a little higher, especially being located on the main highway between The Bay and Sacramento. Commuters between the two hubs are slowly beginning to trickle in as Dixon offers a nice midpoint between the beaches and bustle of San Francisco, and the snow and rolling hills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east. Being in proximity to the San Joaquin Valley also means an abundance of fresh, high-quality produce, meats, and dairy that cannot be beaten!

Though nightlife and shopping are not particularly abundant in Dixon - the only large store is the local Walmart - there are quite a few dining options and the food is AWESOME! Add to that the fact that the town has pretty low crime rates and that people are incredibly friendly, Dixon is a great place to live. Read Less
Small, But Good: Living in Dixon User Rating 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 10, 2018) I've spent the past 2 years living in Dixon, and it has been so-so. I've endured some rough times, but for the most part I can't complain too much. I relocated to Dixon because it was close enough to Sacramento, and I took a job there. The commute was easy, and I found people to ...Read More carpool with, so it wasn't so bad.

If I had to share my favorite things about living in Dixon, it would probably be the fact that I am fairly close to the Nut Tree Outlets in Vacaville. It is a great place to go shopping, and you can easily spend an entire day there without realizing it. Likewise, you might not have too many good restaurants in Dixon, but a trip to Sacramento to find some good food, is well worth it on the weekend.

Overall, you get what you pay for. Home prices are kind of steep, but you know you'll be safe from most crime. Likewise the weather is great. If you're working in or around Sacramento, give Dixon a try, you just might like it. Read Less
