Des Moines: An Excellent Alternative to the High Cost of Seattle. 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 16, 2018) Des Moines, Washington has been a blessing for me. I have lived in plenty of other parts of the country and even the general King County area and I can confidently say that Des Moines is an excellent place to live, and a cost-effective choice as well. It should go without saying ...Read More that the cost of living in Seattle is skyrocketing and unreasonable, and I have found that there are even some nearby Suburbs that are just as expensive. However, Des Moines is where you'll get the most bang for your buck.

The cost of living in Des Moines is entirely more reasonable than what you'd find in Seattle or Tacoma, or Everett. Des Moines offers a wide variety of diverse dining options and even a little nightlife experience if you're up for it. Shopping is excellent being nearby to several malls, and there are plenty of quaint shops as well if you're looking to keep the independent store shopping experience alive.

The weather is overall the same as Seattle. Cooler, wet winters, and sunny, warm summers. The climate is perfect for me because I'm not a huge fan of snow, which is good because most places you'll find on this side of Washington don't get much snow (if any) unless you're up in the mountains.
