A place to visit only. User Rating 1.5 rating By Anonymous ( Apr 11, 2026) I have lived in California City for 15 years and have only seen this town sink further and further into the ground. The level of crime, homelessness, drug addicts, and vandalism have only increased over time. We do not have police on patrol here because they spend all their time ...Read More rushing from one crime scene to the next. I have been broken into one time and had my truck vandalized. Both times the police handled it well and came to my aid. The kids here are hoodlums! They cause nothing but trouble. The schools suck and have terrible ratings. People who have existing homes for sale cannot get out without dropping the price by $20,000 to $35,000 dollars. New homes are being built all over town and people are stupid enough to come here and pay between $249,999.00 for a 968 sq. ft. house up to $349,999.00 for a 1500 sq. ft. house. Currently they are building more homes then they can sell. People buy here because of the price and then commute all the way to LA in some cases. The local government is horrible with a mayor who could care less about this town. The only two good things about this town is the day you move in and think you have a bargain and the day you move out because the bargain isn't worth it. I am trying to move out now. I have had enough of this city, and of this state. I want to go some place where you can live a normal life and feel safe and secure. If you are thinking of moving here do not do it. You will pay a ton in property tax for a city which offers nothing in return. We are so broke, we lost our fire department. We now vend out to Kern County for our fire department. The roads suck, be prepared to get front end alignments a few times a year. When you add in the desert climate, in the mid hundreds in the summer it is a place to drive by, not live in. I have told you the truth. But you should check it out for yourself. You may find living here in a lower priced existing home to be worth it. Many have moved in, so they must see some benefit to being here. Read Less
Run, don't walk away from this city! User Rating 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Jan 31, 2020) I agree with the one other reviewer on this website, do not move here! There is a reason for the low rents and lower real estate prices. The element of people who live here is scary and the amount of crime, barking dogs throughout the days and nights, rundown neighborhoods and ...Read More just the lack of caring by it's city's officials and law enforcement to improve overall condition and safety is staggering. I have lived in some pretty rough places, but people were more considerate and safety wasn't such an issue like it is here. I'm sure there has to be more descent people who live here, I just haven't found any of them. Given the element I have experienced I don't venture out to often and drive out of town for any shopping needs. I am stuck here until I can sell my home without getting dinged in taxes, but a fair warning to those looking for an affordable and safe descent place to live, don't do it! Home ownership in this city comes at far too high a price and an extreme detriment to the quality of your life. Some may find this city tolerable, but is it worth the risk? I found out the hard way, it definitely was not! Stuck here for now but will move as soon as I am able. Read Less
Worst place I have ever, horrible place to live User Rating 0.5 rating By Californianative ( Apr 26, 2016) If I could give it negative stars I would. Worst place I have ever lived..we moved away as fast as we could, a year was far too long. The highest crime rate I have ever been in, daily break ins, burglaries, home invasions, robberies...it's really bad. High sex offenders, look it ...Read More up...it's horrible. The most unsafest I have ever felt in my life, and I felt safer in Oakland, bad neighborhoods of LA and San Francisco. People that have lived here for a long time are delusional, and actually defend the place. It comes down to ignorance, lack of education, lack of being outside the area and never living in other areas. No real grocery stores, restaurants, entertainment, no jobs, education, hospitals..basically anything a human needs to survive...I would rather die than live here again... stay as far away from here as possible. I'm not exaggerating..and if you end up moving here, good luck with that. Read Less
