Brandermill, VA: In the Country but Close to the City 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( May 23, 2018) I love Virginia and Brandermill is the perfect place for us to live. Out here on the southwest side of Richmond, we are far enough out to have a country feel and at the same time are close enough to take advantage of the big city attractions and amenities. Our whole development i ...Read More s located on the Swift Creek Reservoir which has pretty good bass fishing. Keep in mind that boating on the reservoir is restricted to nonpowered sail or electric boats as the lake serves as a water source for the community, but the James River is nearby, and all boats are welcome there.
Schools in the area are excellent, and I would rate the overall amenities as very good with lots of local restaurants and shopping. Another plus is the proximity to Pocahontas State Park, which has lots of hiking trails and fishing holes. It's also a good place to take our RV for a close weekend camp trip, and we like not having to drive hours to get out into nature.
On a final note, we love living where there are four real seasons, unlike some other places we have lived. It can be a bit warm in the summer and cold in the winter, but for us, that's the way it should be. A great place to live! Read Less
