Great Place to Live 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Nov 21, 2019) We bought our first home, here in Avondale, a little over a year ago. It's a growing city with lots of development--from both a housing, and business perspective. My neighbors are friendly, and in general, things are kept clean throughout the city. A $19M renovation was just comp ...Read More eted at Festival Fields Park, and there are multiple smaller parks spread throughout the various communities. We're only about 15 minutes away from Westgate and UoPX Stadium, and there is a movie theater and major shopping complex within city limits. I am a young black male, but unlike what other reviewers have experienced, my interactions with Avondale or Goodyear PD have all been pleasant. The only drawback of living in Avondale is its distance from central Phoenix--which means a nightmarish rush hour commute for most people. Once the Loop 202 expansion project is complete, that should alleviate much of the congestion on I-10 and the adjacent side streets. Overall, Avondale is a great place to live! Read Less

Im a young black career woman and I have a big problem with the police harassing not only me but my friends who live in the neighborhood who are also black. The cops ...Read More here harass black people tremendously. Stopping anyone black for false reasons like wide turns or speeding. I never seen such harassment in my life and I lived in some very all white communities. Whenever my friends come and visit me they get stopped as well. Any one who is black just be aware and prepared cause the police here are very racist. They towed my neighbor and friend car who is a single black woman of 2 for a wide turn and wouldn't let her car out until after 30 days even though she had insurance and had the title to vehicle. They really all about taxing everyone to death with traffic tickets and guess how the city make their money. I would not recommend this city to anyone black and definitely will not be living there ever again. I live in Phoenix now and haven't had one problem with the police since. But I would advise anybody who went through what I did and what my family and friends did to stay out Avondale. The city is nice itself but the cops are super racist and hate black people.

Don't forget anyo ...Read More ne can carry a firearm without registration. This makes it so much easier for thieves to get the kind of gear they need.

There are a ton of retail stores for your shopping enjoyment. Neighborhoods change from block to block from blue collar to white collar. Nightlife exists in bars. It appears neighbors do not rely talk with each other. There are a decent number of churches in the area and community bonding occurs through them. The homes and rent are relatively cheap as compared to Southern California. Just remember to purchase a firearm on arrival. Read Less
