Don't even consider it. Choose somewhere else! User Rating 1 rating By MiseryinGA ( Mar 28, 2019) We've been literally trapped here because of horrible employment. My spouse and I came here to be near ill family. We are both are well educated and held management positions in our prior state. You need to drive into Alabama or farther into Georgia for a job that pays over $7. ...Read More 50 an hour. Temporary job agencies hold 90% of the jobs. The KIA plant is the best paying but it's impossible to get into without starting at $9.00 through a temporary agency. It's no wonder homes are broken into, people shot and stores robbed. Crime is ridiculously high, police officers under trained, streets are dirty and there's 4 liquor stores to 1 grocery store. The ONLY good thing is the elementary school. It's location is scary near the public housing with frequent firearm discharges but the staff at the school is amazing. Read Less
Too much litter User Rating 2 rating By carolleigh ( Jan 22, 2018) We lived in another state and decided to retired here, nice climate and our retirement would go farther. But after moving here, we have seen so much litter and garbage thrown in the streets, beside houses, and in ditches. The children walk along the street and discard their can ...Read More dy wrappers, drink containers and any other thing that needs to go to a trash receptacle. I asked one child who I saw throw a drink carton beside the road why she did that she said oh I meant to throw it in the ditch ... I asked her if she knew that ditch ran to the Chattahoochee the source of our drinking water. Adults drive down the street and throw their garbage out of the windows in others yards or anywhere they please. West Point does have trash pick up on a regular basis. I see open cans of food, gallon milk jugs and other household debris tossed in the ditch or field from houses that do have garbage pick up as it is charged in their utility bill. I try to clean up but after I pick it up it is back the next day. I have asked the city about but have not gotten a response. West Point is a beautiful place, close to good medical facilities and would be a great destination for retirees, but the litter problem is tremendous and it seems that the residents, the town government, do not have the self respect to keep their surroundings clean.
