Sleepy town, but okay if you have money and can live without a social life User Rating 2 rating By Anonymous ( Sep 17, 2020) This is a small south Georgia town, probably best known as a 'one-horse'. It has a medical center which struggles with keeping investors, an anemic transportation center, and the usual collection of small job opportunities. The Airport district has struggled as well, with the lim ...Read More ited employment opportunities defined by production jobs and menial taskwork. The town definitely feels like its 'heyday' has passed. The junior colleges locally struggle to train/educate the failures coming out of the local school districts. Honestly, I think most people who graduate high school attempt to put the city in their rear view mirror as soon as possible, because of lack of opportunity. The weekly newspaper can vouch for the plethora of uneducated via the 'arrest report' section. The City/County appears to be stymied on this issue.

It's reasonably safe (check with local realtors) and quiet in most areas, has adequate shopping/dining facilities, property is CHEAP, and if you're doing internet business or retired, it's worth looking at. There are a couple of districts which have beautiful old houses to buy because they're cheap but they're on redlines. However, if you're adventurous...

Overall, if you can survive with a minimal social life and have income-generating capacity divorced from local economics, it's a good place to live. Or, if you want to start a business using unskilled labor (or start your own skilled labor business), you have a good opportunity here. The City and County government will do their best to hinder you, but it can be overcome with a little patience. Read Less
Fix the roads User Rating 1 rating By Latasha ( Apr 11, 2017) It amazes me that the court house is covered in marble but the roads are ridiculously in need of being repaired. Then there's the whole meth drug issue. I know of a place across from me that have an obvious over abundance of drug flow traffic coming and going and there's nothing ...Read More done about it. It doesn't take a genius to realize the obvious. It would be nice to see some road improvements and more attention paid to the meth dealings in waycross. Aside from that the town itself is not bad.
