I moved here from NJ. There's crime here but it's nowhere near as bad as NJ, I'd rather live here in that regard. I've never felt unsafe.
The community isn't bad, most people I've encountered have been nice especially when grocery shopping. A lot of amenities within close proxim ...Read More
ity, some great food like Cappza's Pizza and Holy Cannoli.
I think the worst aspect is visually, most of Waterville looks drab. Even worse areas to live in here in Maine like Augusta tend to look better than Waterville. A lot of the homes here look like they haven't had a coat of paint in decades. A lot of rental properties with landlords who simply don't care unfortunately.
The town itself isn't that bad but it could definitely do better.

Waterville Maine...it must be the place. The place where Satan kisses the Earth goodnight. As in any area where there isn't enough to go around, caring and kindness are at a minimum. The city is depressed and most of the people seem to share that same diagnosis. Granted, there a ...Read More
re people who seek a quiet place to live. A place that offers anonymity. But even when purposely going solo there isn't much to do. And I have known a satisfied existence in other remote places. I have never been so happy to leave a place as I was when we packed up and left Waterville, Maine and our date of departure, although not soon enough, was perfect. Why? Because just a short while before my husband was fired from his position as a finance manager of a professional practice, I noticed a realtor driving slowly up our driveway and pointing as if she were showing someone our rented home. Funny thing - she was the spouse of 1 of my husband's employers. Isn't that an amazing coincidence?
As I said, Waterville, Maine is a place where there isn't enough to go around. And its people behave accordingly.

Living in Watervills is definitely NOT something I would encourage anyone to do. I have lived here for 8 years now and let me tell you, things get better instead of worse here. It seems that the community just doesn't care about anything: the schools are terrible (tons of dropout ...Read More
s and very low graduation rates), the astronomical crime rate makes people afraid to go anywhere after dark, there are no jobs and no decent places to live. The weather is always dreary and depressing, like even it is sympathizing with those of us who live here.
There's nothing to recommend this place by way of entertainment or tourist attractions, either. We have the Waterville Opera House where you can see a good music show sometimes, The Colby College Museum of Art, some decent escape room experiences out at Entrapme Escape Rooms, and a pretty good place to get some good BBQ and a cold beer over at The Proper Pig. Other than that, there's not much to say. Waterville just isn't one of the best areas in the state to call home.
