Waldorf, a great place to live! 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Oct 22, 2018) I have lived in Waldorf for over 16 years. Waldorf is a diverse bedroom community for those working primarily in Washington DC, Andrews AFB, and Northern Virginia. It is a large DC suburb In Charles County, MD with over 72,000 residents comprising nearly half of the county's popu ...Read More lation. A shopping and restaurant hub, it has numerous strip malls and supermarkets, nationally known chain restaurants, automobile dealerships, and the sprawling St. Charles Towncenter Mall. Other shopping centers include Waldorf Marketplace, The Shoppes at Waldorf, Shoppers World and others. The plethora of stores and restaurants draws people from all over Southern Maryland and traffic on the weekends can be a challenge to the uninitiated. Waldorf also has several recreation options including a popular AMC movie theater with large reclining seats and reserved seating, a recreation center known as the Capital Clubhouse, nearby White Plains Golf Course, Regency Furniture Baseball Stadium, home to the minor league Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, and the nearby Cedarville State Forest for the outdoor enthusiast. The MGM casino is only a short drive away in National Harbor. However, nightlife here is practically non-existent. Most residents travel to DC or the more close in suburbs to enjoy night clubs, high end restaurants and the like. Waldorf has several elementary and middle schools and four high schools: Thomas Stone, Westlake, North Point, and St. Charles. The College of Southern Maryland is minutes away in La Plata. Waldorf has several neighborhoods with many different types of housing. Most of the newer neighborhoods consist of colonial style single family homes and town homes. Most of the older neighborhood homes tend to be split foyers or ramblers. There are several new apartment complexes that have been built in just the last few years. Because Waldorf is a bedroom community, nearly everyone commutes to work. That means heavy rush hour morning and evening traffic. Commuting for all in the DC area can be difficult, and Waldorf residents are known to have some of the longest commutes in the COUNTRY!Waldorf does have it's issues, but I have liked living here overall. I find it to be a safe comfortable place to live with easy access to DC, Baltimore, and Northern Virginia. It's home! Read Less
A Great and Growing City to Live In 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Feb 17, 2015) I lived in Waldorf, MD for 19 years in the neighborhood of Carrington. Waldorf is a suburb of southern Maryland and is very close to Washington D.C. This city is considered a mattress town for military and other government workers working in or around Washington D.C. Waldorf has ...Read More a population of 68,947 so there are a lot of franchised restaurants and stores. Any store you can think of is in Waldorf. There is a mall called St. Charles Town Center. This is a good size mall with a lot of stores and a large food court. Finding a house or apartment will not be an issue because apartments and houses are constantly being built. This city grew very rapidly and there are no city planners, therefore, there is no organization to the city. There is no downtown, just a lot of strip malls that can make driving around very confusing. Growing very fast in the early 2000s also increased the crime. The older suburban neighborhoods became unsafe to live in and many families moved to newer neighborhoods of Waldorf.

Waldorf does have a lot to offer besides restaurants and stores. They have a hockey/ ice skating rink, movie theatre, bowling alley, kids sport leagues, a Maryland University campus, and gyms. Just outside of the city is a minor league baseball team called the Blue Crabs? The night life to the city is not great. There are restaurant and bars, however, if looking for a dance club this is not the city. Many people go out to Washington D.C. to enjoy the night life. There are a lot of churches and community clubs if you enjoy meeting new people. Overall Waldorf is a good city to live in if you enjoy the ease of shopping and not too involved in the night life.
