Old and Conjested 2 rating By Anonymous ( May 09, 2019) Parking is limited. At times I have circled the block 30 minutes trying to park. Your bumpers take a beating. Always have to move your vehicle for sweeper or away from meters.

Rents are high and some buildings are unkept. My friends apt has a broken security door, infestation an ...Read More d burglaries. Not unusual to see multi families living in an apts. within the city.

Shops and restaurants conveniently located. Too many summer parades cause traffic congestion. Sweepers keep streets clean. Drivers very impatient. Not unusual to have someone honk their horn at red lights. Not a very diverse city. Read Less

But in recent years, many ...Read More communities have emerged from being mere bedroom communities to destinations where you can find many opportunities for shopping, nice restaurants, and cultural events. Of particular interest to me is Union City, NJ.

Union City is located directly across from Manhattan. Since the early 1960s, Union City has been home to the largest Cuban American population outside of Miami, FL. In fact, it has earned the nickname, "Havana On The Hudson." New York has long supported a fairly large Cuban community for many decades, I have found that the Cuban community of Union City, however, almost mirrors that of Little Havana in Miami. Walking along Union City's main street, Bergeline Avenue, I have found a very similar ambience to what I find in Miami's Calle Ocho (the main drag of Little Havana). There are numerous Cuban restaurants, coffee stands, and all kinds of other businesses which are owned and run by Cubans. When it comes to Cuban restaurants in Union City, you know that you are getting the real deal and not an approximation of the cuisine which is typical in the big city across the Hudson.

While Union City is still home to the largest concentration of Cubans outside of Miami, Cubans are no longer the majority of its hispanic population. When I walk along Bergeline Avenue these days, I've observed an emerging presence from Latin Americans countries everywhere. This new population has gradually replaced Cuban businesses. Read Less

It was my very first time ever visiting the city, however I found it a very pleasant place to be. I would highly recommend Union City New Jersey to anyone looking for a unique spot to go to for summer vacation.

Mam ...Read More a Rosa Brick House Pizza which is located Manhattan Ave, had the best pizza I had ever tasted in my life. We actually dined there about three times during our stay in Union City New Jersey. The staff was very polite and even became familiar with our faces and took the time to learn our names. The wonderful thing about this city is that it is conveniently located close to other popular New Jersey cities. This worked out for us because we were actually in the state of New Jersey to attend a conference that was being held in the nearby town of Jersey City.

We found that the price of hotels were alot cheaper in Union City, then in the surrounding areas. We were able to get a hotel room in Union City for $99 a night, compared to the other nearby cities that were charging at least $140+ a night for a decent hotel. Read Less
