The community of Tigard, OR is a remarkable and underrated place. I relocated to Tigard, OR in my late 20's and took a teaching position there, leaving in 2010 after a two-year stay. With a population of around 47,000 people, I found it to be a community of very friendly and neig ...Read More

Overall, I would rate this community to be an 8 out of 10. There is some nightlife available, but is somewhat limited. However, this is a strong and generally safe community with decent restaurants and a number of mom-and-pop stores for shopping.
As I recall there were several appealing attractions within this community. Once my sister and my nephew visited me, and we went to an amusement center called Sky High Sports, which features wall-to-wall trampolines and a foam pit. I also remember visiting the Pittock Mansion museum, which boasts a surprisingly incredible view of Tigard.
As a rule people here are generally very friendly. Crime does exist, but it is at a very low rate. I was quite impressed at the selection of restaurants within the area as well. There was a large variety of ethnic restaurants in particular including Mexican, Italian, and even Lebanese. A number of the restaurants within the area also offer a customized pizza service as well.
The nightlife in Tigard is present, but there are definitely better places. The area has a number of hookah bars for those who are tobacco enthusiasts, plus there are a few lounges as well. Nearby Portland obviously has a much larger selection. However, for a town of its size Tigard has a fairly decent shopping culture. I remember being able to spend some of my afternoons at the Washington Square shopping district which had a number of outlets including J. Crew, Nordstrom, JC Penney, and many others. The Bridgeport Shopping Mall was available as well.
