The population of Taos is under 10,000 and statistics say crime 24% per 100,000? That must mean everyone's a criminal. My family has lived in Taos many generations and it is beautiful. Tradition have been preserved 100s/ 1000s of years and the fabulous food. Taos is talked up t ...Read More
o be a mecca or utopia, life is just as hard here as other small towns. The transportation sucks, the winters are hard and jobs don't pay much. As far as multicultural is concerned, up until recently it has been known to be tri-culural (3). If your looking for a wonderland I suggest you visit before you abandon everything on a pipe dream that a real estate agent just sold you.

ng surrounded by spectacular scenery, an idiosyncratic populace, and a wealth of interesting shops and restaurants. What we did not expect to find in this "liberal" bastion was entrenched racism. My wife is a black physician practicing at the local hospital. She has experienced the kind of insidious racism at her place of work that we thought had been expunged in the 1960's. Unless you are a white male, Holy Cross Hospital is as hostile a workplace as one can imagine. As for the town itself, underlying the "liberal" facade lurks an entrenched bias against African-Americans. This has been an unexpected and unwanted discovery. It Tsaos worse than a lot of other places? No. Is it better? Not if you're black.
