If you like to spend time outdoors, Syracuse is a place you'll like. Thurston Peak, which is about 7,000 feet tall, is very close and a great place to go hiking. There are also a lot of parks inside the city as well if you prefer something a little less exhilarating.
There isn't much of a selection in terms of shopping and restaurants go. For that, you'll probably have to go to a neighboring town or drive to Salt Lake City. Syracuse is more about a relaxed lifestyle than living in an urban jungle. It's a good choice for people who enjoy a quiet life.
