Spokane Valley - New, But Good! User Rating 3.5 rating By Anonymous ( Feb 17, 2015) Spokane Valley, WA is only eleven years old. I was working in an office near the Idaho and Washington line in what is now Spokane Valley when the controversial vote for incorporation happened. This city is a true product of the tech and housing bubbles. It's population is nearing ...Read More the 100,000 mark which is incredible for such a young city.

Between Spokane, WA and Coeur d' Alene, ID extremely fertile farmland and a gigantic underground aquifer exists. This lowland was quickly gobbled-up by commercial and residential real estate developers. The residents of "The Valley" noticed that municipal services and government issues were burdensome because they were centralized in Spokane proper located 15 miles west. A major shopping center was built in the valley, and nearly overnight, a sprawling independent suburb emerged.

Spokane Valley is home to an amazing variety of high tech companies and distribution warehouses. It is bordered on the north and south by high mountain ranges. It's lifeline is Interstate 90. New residents and visitors will notice that Spokane Valley is mainly a residential hideaway for people working and playing in the nearby cities of Spokane, Cheney, Post Falls, Coeur d'Alene. Employment and recreation opportunities are exceptionally diverse and more attractive than almost any other region in the state.

Spokane Valley does have a high non-violent crime rate. Next to Fresno, CA this area is rated number two for car thefts and burglary. Property taxes are high even in low-income neighborhoods. The Valley is however, a sportsman's paradise. Hunting, boating, fishing, racing, flying and concert events are around every turn. A major Cabela's store and the world's only floating golf green are only a few minutes away. Shopping and high tech sector perks are also abundant considering they are at the heart of how the city was established.

Both apartment and permanent home living in Spokane Valley is comfortable with an average number of traffic jams and noise restriction interruptions. Lucrative careers are absolutely possible here. So is an active social life. Be prepared to pay high taxes on things like property, retail items and restaurant gratuities. In short the residents of Spokane Valley prefer to call the city "home" while traveling a short distance to work and play. Read Less
