Too many people! Housing prices are outrageous, and getting worse! 2.5 rating By Anonymous ( Mar 30, 2021) We have lived here for 3 years. We bought our house in 11/19 for $435K. Its a 4bd, 3ba with no yard. A little over a year later its now worth $558k. It is insanely expensive to live here. If you want anything decent to buy you are looking at well over a half a million dollars. Pe ...Read More ople are fighting over houses, bidding wars, wait-lists, camping outside builders offices! The relators are overwhelmed & don't care if you are going to spend 650k or 800k on a house that would cost 300k in another state. They treat you as disposable cuz there is a long list behind you waiting to get a house. Locals say its the Tech industry booming here bringing in more people and all the old California residents running to the Reno (Sparks, Spanish Springs etc) area due to CA taxes, fires, and even more expensive homes. There is no way to sustain a happy lifestyle here. We could sell our totally overpriced house for a profit and move away. Staying local isn't even an option because you are just turning around and buying another outrageously overpriced home. For 650k you can get an decent home in the desert (Spanish Springs area but there is a waitlist). If you are not from California & just sold a million dollar home there and you don't have a tech degree DO NOT MOVE HERE. My husband and I combined make 200k and we worry about trying to raise children here. Since the housing prices are so crazy everything else is too. Everything from food to gas or even the little perks like getting a nice hair cut etc. is considerably more expensive here. Not to mention the last 4 HUGE big issues - 1) if you don't have a tech degree good luck making over 45k. They still pay in the Reno area like its 2004 not 2021 (the companies around here are not taking into account cost of living AT ALL, n there isnt many jobs). 2) this place cant take on this sort of growth (natural resources like fresh water are going to be a big issues). 3) the schools are ranked lower than low! The healthcare here is the worse I have seen (just getting into see a doctor is a horrible ordeal). Lastly - they keep building all of these houses and people are moving in droves but they aren't building more grocery stores, restaurants, or medical facilities. In Sparks for instance due to all the housing we all fight over the same grocery stores and such (its madness 24/7). Due to all of this people are annoyed, volatile, not polite, and don't even get me started on the bad driving. I have lived in Philly, Tampa, Kansas City, & San Diego to name a few. This place is not anywhere near as big as those cities but the drivers here are highly aggressive and dangerous. They ride your bumper no matter how fast you go, they cross 3 lanes with-out even a single, pass on the right, cut you off, and speed in residentials like its a race way. Can't wait to sell our house for a profit in another year and escape. I could see how this place could have been desirable a few years back, but the word got out and now its a decision you will regret for sure. Also, for all the new people moving here you would think they would do something with downtown Reno - nope - and its tragic looking. Homeless everywhere and old trashy buildings. Lake Tahoe is beautiful but the crowds!!!! Its actually so sad there are just too many people and this place is going to crumble under the weight. Two stars for the mountain view if you can get it :-) Read Less
Not What You Think 0.5 rating By Anonymous ( Mar 04, 2021) I do not recommend Sparks. One thing to be aware of is that all of the Reno Airport planes circle over Sparks. And there are a lot of planes; day and night, every single day. It seems like there are 100’s of Southwest flights circling over Sparks. Every single day there are ...Read More landscaping crews somewhere in every single neighborhood. Every single day, even on Sundays. It seems as though the landscaping companies have advertise “come work here” all over the globe. There are 100’s and 100’s of people working in landscaping. I suppose if you want a job it would be a good place to check out. The noise is constant: weed whackers, lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, vacuums, and every other piece of landscaping equipment that you can think of. And they use pesticides, a TON of pesticides. They are always spraying something. And watering. The sprinklers run day and night, every single day. The surrounding landscape makes you feel as though you are on Mars; bleak, bleak, bleak. And dry. Very dry. And because of the amount of sagebrush and rabbit bush, you’ll end up with 365 days of allergies. Every single day, day and night. The drivers win the prize for tailgaters. I don’t know if Reno-Sparks drivers think that because it is a gambling state that they can drive like maniacs but they do. Healthcare sucks. Good luck in finding a) a doctor and b) an appointment. And stay away from Gentle Dentle; the worst. It’s like a factory. I cannot think of one redeeming quality of Sparks. I did enjoy the wild horses and they are lovely. Read Less
City Council does not care 1 rating By CarlosAona ( Apr 06, 2017) Most of Sparks is okay. But in older areas, complaints to the city council just go ignored. The shed is made out of pipes, flooring, tin, plywood, blocks, linoleum, and miscellaneous scavenged material. Mice live under the shed and forage into neighbors yards. At least one snake lives in the ugly mess. Pieces of the roof blow off occasionally. It has electrical service inside the shed that cannot possibly be safe. The front of their house is beautiful, but the shed which I have to see every time I look out the window are have a BBG outside is obnoxious. The City of Sparks has no regulations regarding sheds. Check out the Parks in Sparks, NV! 4.5 rating By Anonymous ( Aug 05, 2010) While on a cross country trip in May of 2010, my husband and I spent a long weekend in the delightful city of Sparks, Nevada. My favorite thing about Sparks was the gorgeous weather. Sparks is sunny 80% of the year, despite the presence of full seasonal variation.

As gambling fanatics, we decided to stay at the John Ascuaga's Casino Resort. We stayed on the twentieth floor of the resort, which provided us with a phenomenal view of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Our room was luxurious and our beds were comfortable. The best part of the resort was being within walking distance from the casino!

While I enjoyed the casino and the weather the most, my husband's favorite part of my trip to the city of Sparks was our visit to Golden Eagle Regional Park. As a sports enthusiast, he was very impressed with the 1.4 million square feet of artificial turf. Golden Eagle is truly a family park, as it was designed to host sports activities for people of all ages, including children. The only negative part about our trip to Sparks was our departure!
