When my son and his wife asked me to relocate to South Houston, I thought it would be a good move and full of opportunities, after all, Houston is a big city with lots of money. When I first arrived, I got a bad feeling right away as we drove into South Houston. I noticed a lot of low income housing and people just hanging out in the streets drinking beer and doing who knows what else, but I still decided to give the place a chance.

I found a job very quickly, and I must admit that Houston is ripe with job opportunities. Finding affordable housing in South Houston is not a problem but most of it is in poor areas of the city that are crime ridden. Public transportation is okay and getting around in South Houston is is relatively simple as long as you plan your trip, especially if you get a job outside of the city.

The main thing that turned me off about the city was the crime and the fact that a lot of the people were not very friendly. If you want to live in Houston, I recommend another area of town or city in the Houston area.
