The rating is ridiculous and needs updating. No question this area was a dumping site for all of Suffolk counties problem cases.
This has all changed. Remember, Shirley, Mastic, Mastic beach and coveted Smith point have all streaked to the upper tiers of desirability. Our beache ...Read More

Shirley is a nice little city located in the middle of Long Island, on the ocean side. It can get a little boring here sometimes, especially in the winter, but it's not too bad. Once summer comes around, the whole area comes to life and a lot of folks from the city come here for ...Read More
vacation.
If you're looking to live here year-round, keep in mind that the job market isn't as bountiful as it is in bigger cities and you might not have a lot to choose from. It can be expensive to live here too. Besides that, there is a fair amount of attractions here. Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge is right along the water and one of the best areas in Shirley.
There aren't many restaurants or stores here though, so if you want to try a new place to eat then you might need to drive to a neighboring town. Overall though, it's a comfortable little place that is much more fun in the summer.
