Warm Sandy Springs, Georgia User Rating 4 rating By Anonymous ( Jul 22, 2010) I lived in the city of Sandy Springs, GA for four years, from 2004-2008. Sandy Springs is an affluent, mostly white suburb of Atlanta. The population of Sandy Springs is in the 80,000's. There are many headquarters of Fortune 500 companies in Sandy Springs, United Parcel Service ...Read More and Rubbermaid, for example. Due to this, jobs are fairly plentiful in the area.

Sandy Springs borders the Chattahoochee River where there are many Antebellum style mansions with big columns as seen in Gone With The Wind with riverfront views where a variety of water sports and activities can be enjoyed. There are many unique, upscale shopping centers and antique malls in Sandy Springs. Because it's an upscale community and so close to Atlanta (20 minute drive) there are also many restaurants with a large variety of cuisine available, sushi and vegetarian to name a couple.

There is also a large selection of nightlife in the city including comedy and live music as well as, free outdoor concerts and free outdoor family movies in the summer. Local Insights Report

      Sandy Springs, GA

Proudly ranked as the sixth-largest city in the state of Georgia, Sandy Springs boasts of serene and lush neighborhoods. Located to the north of Fulton County and 14 miles north of downtown Atlanta, the city harbors affluent individuals plus a friendly environment.

Home to approximately 90,000 residents, this suburban town is predominant with young families. Surrounded by ivy-league education facilities like Riverwood High and the highly ranked Heards Ferry Elementary - a public institution - your kids will school in style. The city hosts high-end multi-corps, which is another advantage. With organizations like IBM, Cisco Systems, and United Parcel Service headquartered there, some employment prospects are guaranteed.

All these goodies, however, come at a price. The cost of housing in this city is expensive compared to other localities. With a median home price of over $400,000 and property taxes exceeding $2,000 annually, this leafy-suburb requires a fat wallet. High property rates should, however, not scare you! True to the cliché, "there's something for everyone," the neighborhood also contains affordable houses. Avalon is the most pocket friendly with an average rent of below $1,300 a month.

Although the cost of housing is outrageous, medical expenses are quite affordable. Hosting excellent medical facilities in Atlanta like Northside hospital and St. Joseph's children hospital, all your medical needs are sorted.

Commuting time and costs on this side of town is top-notch! With the best one-way commuter average of slightly above 24minutes, the time is better than the nation's standard of over 26 minutes. Georgia Regional Transport Authority (GRTA) and MARTA are on site to sort your transport needs. However, if you like to cruise around town in your guzzler, the road network and traffic are friendly and enjoyable.

Synonymous with the actual name of the region is a spring. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, you'll fall in love with this place. Perfect terrain for biking and hiking coupled with vast recreational parks like [Chattahoochee River National Recreational Area], this is an ideal place for outdoor lovers. As darkness engulfs the city, a wide range of activities ranging from console-gaming to clubbing graces the social scene.

If you are weather-sensitive (especially to cold), then this is the best bet for you. The area experiences hot summers and temperatures of over 75 degrees during spring. Though you might experience a bit of rain, especially around March, unlike other regions, winter is gentle here, and your driveway is not likely to be snowed.

With all these factors mentioned above, Sandy Springs is worth considering. Comprising of friendly neighborhoods and functional social amenities, whether you choose to buy or rent, your stay will be hassle-free and enjoyable.
